Bangalore, Sep 20: Dr K R Venugopal, principal and dean of Vishweshwaraiah Engineering College here, was suspended by the Bangalore University syndicate, on the allegation that he had submitted a fake caste certificate while bagging the employment 21 years ago.

As the government instructed the University to initiate actions against Dr Venugopal, the special syndicate meeting of the university convened on Friday September 19, took this decision.

The government has asked the university to submit a report about the genuineness of the charge the suspended principal is facing. A syndicate sub-committee with director of college education Prof Kodandaramaiah, Law College principal Prof Harish and syndicate member Prof Rudramuni as its members, has been formed for the purpose. The committee will look into the issue and submit report within two weeks, said in-charge vice-chancellor of the university Prof P Rathore.

Till the issue is sorted out, senior most dean of the college will officiate as principal of the college. Dr Venugopal is facing the charge of falsely claiming himself to be belonging to 'Agnikul Kshatriya' caste while submitting job application.

It is gathered that a complaint about the fake caste certificate against Dr Venugopal, was made to the government long back, and after keeping it pending till now, it has decided to act on it in a hurry now.
