Bangalore: `Minorities at the Receiving End' - Ananthamurthy

The Hindu

Bangalore, Sep 21: “Of late, Muslims in the country and Christians in the State are facing problems similar to those experienced by people during Adolf Hitler’s regime in the 1940s,” Jnanpith Award winner writer U.R. Ananthamurthy has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day seminar on the late K.P. Poornachandra Tejaswi, writer, organised by the Central Sahitya Akademi and the Grama Bharata Samskritika Vedike here on Saturday.

Dr. Ananthamurthy said Tejaswi’s scientific curiosity towards the animal world, leisurely attitude to issues and his ability to draw metaphors from different sources helped transcend himself and some of his works above the mundane.

Ki. Ram. Nagaraj, literary critic, spoke on the works of Tejaswi. Kum. Veerabhadrappa, novelist, was the chief guest.

Poor response

For the second time in a fortnight, there was poor public response to the programmes of the Sahitya Akademi.

The seminar was scheduled to be inaugurated at 10 a.m. There were hardly 15 persons, including guests, presspersons and organisers, at the venue till 10.30. a.m.

The response to the three-day national seminar organised by the akademi on G.P. Rajarathnam on September 5 at the Central College’s Senate Hall was no less disappointing.

I saw this gentleman almost six months ago speaking against the possible BJP-JD remarriage. Then he went missing and now reappears agian as the savior of minorities! Mr. Ananthamoorthy, you can spend your valuable time on literature than trying to get milage by speaking on these isuues. There are enough politicians and communal leaders to take care of these issues! Allow us to leave as human beings without differentiating as hindus, muslims and minorities!
