Mangalore: Varsity College Lecturers to Protest against UGC on Sep 24

Mangalore, Sep 22: College lecturers will be staging a protest on Wednesday September 24, opposing the delay tactics of the Union Grants Commission (UGC).

The UGC pay commission led by Prof Chaddha was expected to present its report on revision of scales of both university and college lecturers by the end of this month. The union government had already introduced the sixth pay commission report to its employees.

The pay scale of college lecturers will have to be revised with effect from March 1, 2009. The lecturers will protest by wearing black badges and during the intervals in between classes in their respective colleges on Wednesday. The protest is in response to the call given by the All India College Teachers' Federation.

Memorandums of demand will be forwarded to both the union government and UGC stated the Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT) and state federation in their press release.
