Mangalore, Sep 23: Dakshina Kannada District Religious Harmony Committee president and well known writer Erya Lakshminarayan Alva has hailed the initiatives undertaken by the bishop Paul D'Souza through press releases, urging the Christians to remain calm and maintain peace, besides issuing eight specific instructions for achieving the objective of normalising the situation. These steps have made me very happy, he said.

At a time mutual mis-trust, confusions etc., have vitiated the atmosphere, the need of the hour is to overcome negative emotions, behave calmly and help peace to settle down at the earliest. It is tragic, that some of the so-called leaders of the society have been issuing inflammatory statements for serving their selfish causes. At this juncture, I strongly belive, the statement issued by the bishop and the instructions given by him to the people in the diocese, will go a long way in regulating the situation and setting things in order. I heartily congratulate the bishop for his initiatives, Erya said.

Pejawar Math Swamiji, Dharmastala Dharmadhikari and leaders of Jamaat-E-Islam-E-Hind have already requeted the people to maintain cordial relationship and religious harmony. Indians are known to live in harmony. For maintaining social health and leading a happy life, we should mutually respect religions, live in a friendly society and respect the belief systems of others and follow the principles of live and let live, Erya Lakshminarayan alva has requested.
