Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Sep 25: A stranger who spoke to Sheshamma from Bellippadi village near here, as if he knew her well, succeeded in escaping after taking her gold chain along.

After approaching the woman waiting near Puttur bus stand, he won over the confidence of the unsuspecting woman, by introducing himself to be her relative. He then escorted her to a hotel in Puttur, and told her that he wanted to get a golden chain made for his daughter. He said that he was pleased by the design of the gold chain she was wearing and asked her to give it to him for being shown to the goldsmith. As security, he handed over six sovereigns of gold to her and asked her to wait till he came back.

As the youth did not turn up for long, the woman grew suspicious. After verification, she found that the gold he had given her was spurious. She then complained to the police, but they could not find him after intensive search.
