Udupi, Sep 27:
Chairman of the state human rights commission, Justice S R Nayak, toured vandalized Christian worship centres in the district on Friday September 26. New Life prayer hall located at Krishna Kripa in the city, prayer houses at Shiroor–Byndoor, Mudhoor– Kollur, and Koteshwar, were on his itinerary.

Justice Nayak was accompanied by Praveen Madhukar Pavar, superintendent of police, and Hemalata P, deputy commissioner (DC), on his tour of the troubled areas. He denied hearing allegations of conversions from the public or religious authorities.

Shopkeepers presented a memorandum to the DC urging her to have the New Life church, operating in Krishna Kripa, vacated. They alleged that their pleas to district administration in the past in this regard were futile. They contended that owing to the police presence at the vandalized church customers have started avoiding the building, thus impacting negatively on their businesses.
