Gulbarga, Sep 28: At the special cabinet meeting held here for the second time ever, the state government took some important decisions. It was decided to carve out a separate Yadagiri district, to upgrade Shahapur taluk to the sub-division level, to set up a high-powered committee for correcting regional imbalances and Celebrating of Kanakadasa's birth anniversary by the government besides declaring general holiday on that day, were some of the important decisions that were taken at the meeting.

These steps are expected to usher in a new era and change the face of the north Karnataka districts lying close to Andhra border, popularly known as Hyderabad Karnataka region, which has traditionally remained backward as compared to other parts of the state. The special cabinet meeting was convened here, after a gap of 26 years.

The meeting went on for about three hours. Announcing these decisions at a press conference, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said, that a cabinet sub-committee has been formed under his presidentship, to see that the decisions taken here are implemented in to-to. He also promised to visit the district at least once every quarter, to review progress of the developmental initiatives.

It has also been decided to form a new committee under the presidentship of the revenue minister, for recommending through a report, the taluks that need to be included under Yadagiri district, which is set to be formed soon.
