Mangalore, Sep 28: It is gathered, that intelligence reports have warned of the possibility of the flaring up of disturbances again in the district in two to three days. The Rapid Action Force contingent already deployed here, might get more re-inforcements soon. The orders issued to nab Hindu leaders under the Goonda Act by the police officers, under pressure from the higher ups, has also heightened the perception of disturbances here.

The finding that Bhatkal-based terrorist Roshan Khan, a founder member of the Indian Mujahideen, is operating from Pakistan, has made the police officials jittery. Roshan seems to have built an impressive network of his own in the costal districts including Kasargod in Kerala.

The police continue to keep an eye on sensitive areas and there are reports that some persons have gone underground, making the policemen suspicious of their activities. The fact that pro-SIMI graffiti is making its appearance in Manjeshwar, Kujathoor, Mada etc., in Kasargod district bordering Karnataka and rumours that secret meetings of SIMI activists were held in Manjeshwar and Uppal, have heightened the threat perception in the coastal districts.

There are also suggestions from some quarters to the government, to put an end to the Benami land deals in the coastal districts, which have the potential of providing the terorrists access to highway, train, air and sea routes.

The policemen from the coastal districts of Karnataka and Kasargod in Kerala may be lacking both in number and skills to tackle this menace. Therefore, an urgent need is felt for posting of additional personnel, who are skilled at penetrating the bases of terrorist organizations and anti-social elements.
