Mangalore, Feb 26:
Former President of India Dr A P J Abdul Kalam mesmerized students with his teachings, words of wisdom, and brilliant answers, at an interactive session held at the Corporation Bank  Millennium Building Hall on Wednesday February 25.

The programme on the subject ‘Me and My Society’ was organized by the district administration. About 100 students from 20 schools participated in the event and 10 children also got the opportunity to pose questions to Dr Kalam.

The former President told the students to dream and wished them luck in all their endeavours. He questioned the children as to what their dreams were and said that they should dream big.

Dr Kalam said, “I had three dreams in my life with vision, mission, and realization—the Agni missile, Pura projects, and a powerful India”. He also mentioned his primary school teacher Shivasubrahmniam Aiyar, scientists Vikram Sarabhai, and Sathish Dhawan as his role models in response to a question.

Dr Kalam began his speech with the question “How many of you want to be doctors, engineers, and scientists?” He talked of peace, knowledge, creativity, and courage.

He exhorted the students to be prepared to meet the challenges that they would face in 2020 when India would be an economically-developed nation.

Dr Kalam deftly fielded all questions by students be it on the development of India or science or eradication of terrorism and poverty.

When one of the students asked Dr Kalam for his autograph and a picture with him, to which the latter replied that this would be unfair to the other students present there and insyead asked the student to visit his website.

He told the students to be leaders; a leader who observes failure and problems. Responding to yet another question, Dr Kalam said that he had helped create missiles because it was an indication of strength and because ‘strength respects strength’.

Deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj welcomed the gathering while K Rama Murthy from Corporation Bank honoured Dr Kalam.

Ajay has a point. It needs to be stated that the present world operates essentially on jungle law where muscles are replaced by missiles ! And in the "new world order" fear is tantamount to respect.

Heartfelt thanks to Sri V Ponuraj & his committed team & the Corporation Bank team for giving our children at Mangalore an opportunity to have an interactive session with Honorable Dr. APJ Abdul Kalamji. It is a dream come true for the children . Thanks to Daijiworld for such a beautiful coverage. I express my gratitude to all the people who have worked hard for this event. Looking forward to more such initiatives from the District Administration.

While I admire Dr Kalams integrity and uprightness, I am perplexed at his wisdom in trying to see the nation's strength as derived from war weaponry. Can we use the same logic for every other country too, the more grandiose war weapons you have the stronger and better respected you deserve to be. That is a wrong message and is contrary to Gandhi's message of peace and strength through Ahimsa.

I am surprised why the title of the programme was starting with "Me" instead of 'I'. Anyhow, changing the subject let me say that Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is truly a giant not only as a scientist but also as an engineer. I know this from a person who worked directly under him.

A genius of the highest standard. He commands respect even without power. Dr.Kalam, I admire your knowledge, wisdom, principles with a very high standard of life , still you are down to earth with a very simple living. We are blessed to have witnessed your presidency during our life time. What a powerful message from Dr.Kalam – “ strength respects strength “ . Minorities and dalits, please underline this message. This message is for you people. Instead of fighting an unequal force, first become powerful. Get your folks educated, fill them in all positions, become developed educationally, economically, politically. When you become an equal power , majority will respect you.

Mr Prasanna Rao why bring religion comparison to this great personality Ex Indian President Abdul Kalam. After Abdul Kalam became President of India all Indian children irrespective of religion got inspiration from him. Instead of preaching to Muslim countries first advise BD's/SRS etc outfits to stop violence. If u have back bone do it.

Dr. Kalam is a visionary and inspiration to all of us. When he became President we thought he should concentrate on his research and excel in his field. But he inspired young generation which is a rare feat. Pity that he didn't get another term though he was at the peak of his popularity and was busy with vision 2020. Earlier he was cycling to research center while he did all those successful projects. Those snaps portray a picture of sheer humility and hardwork of Kalam Sir.

Dirty politicians from Karnataka Specially from DK should feel ashamed looking at the Ex-President. That itself may bring some improvement with their communal ideology for votes.

The 'Mission 2020' given by the ex-president is totally forgotten instead now we have people talking about pub attacks, attacking beef eaters, and targetting teenagers. We have proved that we are incapable of having a Vision and working for it. One man's vision and work has brought so much results but his message has been swept under the carpet and stamped.

Yes Auldius, I agree with you, why not we give a chance to all the schools. When such events takes place, all schools in Mangalore should be intimated. As such opportunites are seldom. Therefore it is always a privelege for all the schools to take part in such events. Also, the students could share their wonderful experience with such a great person, for whom we all are happy to have him in our midst.

The Ex-President is an example to the Muslim World that Jihad or War has no place in this World. Talk of peace, love and affection towards mankind and living being that itself is a Jihad. Killing innocent people in the name of God or Jihad is meaning less. What did the perparators of 26/11 got in return by killing unknown/innocent people of Mumbai ?

Is there any place for killers of innocent people. Pakistan should elicit information from this great Muslim Ex-President of India whether innocent muslims are really harrassed in India. Instead of living in peace and allowing others to live in peace there is unnecessary tension every day.

The Ex-President of India is a living example for the Muslims of the World. Talk of peace instead of Jihad or Holy War. What did the perparators of 26/11 get in return except that they killed totally unconnected people of Mumbai in the name of Jihad.Pakistan should learn from this great Soul of India and take effective steps to stop the extremists from striking anywhere in the World in the name of Jihad.

Why only 100 students from 20 schools? Why not atleast 5 students from each & every school in and around Mangalore? It would have been better if more students instead of th elders (teachers?) interacted with Mr Kalam.
