Mangalore, Mar 8:
An elderly lady and a 52-year-old man were allegedly beaten and pushed by a bus driver after failing to reach them to their destination.

The incident took place near Milagres in the city on Saturday March 7, in the evening. Sixty-year-old Pushpa and her relative Jayachandran  Nair, from  Karamana in Trivandrum, Kerala, were the victims.

Along with seven other members of their family, they had been on a visit to the Sri Mookambika Temple in and were on their way to the railway station in the bus which belongs to Raj Kumar Travels.

The group claims to have boarded the bus after confirming with the conductor that the bus would go to the railway station and were issued tickets. However, on reaching Milagres bus stop,  they were asked to get down there.

At this, the group protested saying it was too far from the railway station and they were being cheated as they had paid for tickets to the railway station.

However, the driver and conductor allegedly refused to listen to them and instead began compelling them to leave the bus.

At their refusal to comply, the bus driver allegedly forced them to alight from the bus and beat them with a wooden stick.

As a result of the beating, Pushpa fell down and her nose started to bleed. The other members of the family got down in an attempt to protect the duo and at this, the driver drove the bus away leaving them there.

The family has lodged a complaint with Mangalore north police (Bunder).

People who witnessed the incident have called for strict action against driver and conductor and asked for cancellation of their bus permit.

The city which planned to operate state government-owned city buses had dropped the idea after being pressurized by the private bus owners of the city.

Many such incidents such as the one where a girl who vomited due to motion sickness was made to clean the bus, and an incident in Udupi where a woman was forced to get down from a bus, are generating a bad image of private buses and their staff.

No use of blaming Bus drivers and conductors. Most of them are from poor family and illitarates. they never went for any training for how to handle the passengers. They have their union for protesting if police arrest them. So let us forget the issue. I bet no action will be taken on this issue by the police force.

Remove the conductor and driver from the job..but dont dont go to cancell the permit. Permit belongs to the owner and not driver or conductor..what is owners mistake in this case? punish the driver and conductot, not the owner..

RTO should take care of these problems. I request the public to get up from the  sleep. You have mobiles with camera in it. Click the video and forward these with written complaints to RTO and/or DC. But you have to send the copy to any media or newspaper. It is easy to find an address through the websites. Start doing it today and we will see better tomorrow. Make use of Technology!

Whoever or whatever people talk or protest, these kind of behaviors will never change. Because they got such strong hold (understanding) with police and the government. Bus owners always prefer to recruit some rowdies and they feel that their buses are safe in their hands. They realize only when their own people suffer or they travel abroad and they get punished for their behavior.

The bus drivers and conductors really behave very rudely with people where they are to be more friendly and helpful as they are serving the public. Its very shameful act of beating the public and taking the law in their  hands. I am very suprised why is general public taking the law in hands?

Sad that a place like Mangalore is time and again facing such henious issues tarnishing the beautiful image created in the hearts and minds of the people. I don't belong to Mangalore, but as I daily read thru this wonderful site "DAIJIWORLD.COM", it has drawn me closer to the place and have started building a vision of visitng the place. But feel sorry for the way some people take it cool to bring bad repute to the place. These drivers think they are the "Yamadoots" - Messenger's of death set free to do as they will. These guys need to be booked and dealt with seriously. Not only in Managalore, but else where in the rest of the country it is the same scenario. General public left to the mercy of these wreckless Death Messenger's are helpless. Hello Govt. Depts Wake Up & get into action!!! before the general public start taking control of the scene...

All private bus drivers ,conductors, agents, cleaners & even owner of DK bus are Goondas. They do not have any culture nor respect to the passengers (customers). Recent few incidents of private bus employees in Udupi / Mangalore is so called Talibanization .. Passenger should unite & beat these people when such incident happens. Even police / local authorites can not control these bus operatores since so many years.

Actually as per the article this is a small incident whereas the driver and the conductor have made it a big issue and they deserve punishment from law enforcement. Suppose they have given back the balance of money or they were losing at the most ten rupees was not a big thing for them. The proverb is Aa bail mujhe maar.

This is another black mark on the face of Mangalore & Mangloreans. We till recently where known to be corteouus, law abiding and hospitable lot. But the events in the recent past have sullied our image. If this process has to be reversed we have to educate our children to teach them etiquette and make them better human beings. The bus operators should be taken to task as these instances have become the rule and not the exception. I wonder if the governement will take note of these incidents of bad behaviour by the bus operators and immediately introduces state transport busses in the wider intrest of the commuters.

What an uncivilized behavior from the bus driver. I wonder what other passengers were doing at the time of the incident. Were they enjoying the show? Why other passenger did not protest to the  brutal behavior of the crew. Don’t they know they could be the next victim of such rudeness from the driver? If two or three passengers had  objected to the driver's rudeness, the  driver would not have gone that far.
