Dammam, May 12: A road accident involving three cars took place on the Dammam-Khobar Expressway on May 11, in which one of the cars caught fire spitting a huge firestorm.

The accident occurred when the vehicles were switching lanes. An eyewitness informed that at least one dead body was pulled out of the blazing car.

People nearby tried hard to extinguish the fire before the fire brigade and other officials rushed to the scene. They were successful in extinguishing the blaze.

For many hours the road was fully blocked by law enforcement authorities diverting the traffic.
A recent survey by the traffic department shows that there has been an average of 17 deaths per day in road accidents in the Kingdom, which is considered to be the country’s highest rate of motor vehicle accidents.

The main causes of accidents are speeding and violating traffic signals without complying with traffic rules.

Mohammed, Mangalore/KSA and Ibrahim, khobar..I am surprised to see above snaps wherein you won't find any women's on the road during the incident. May be they are already present in there respective vehicles. Are you talking these type of humanity!! Just inform me can any grown-up gal can walk alone in the street during day time?.. what Mr.shabeer is mentioned is absolutely right. As I known from sources even during accident nobody comes near to the victim for help. Just waiting arrival of either Police Personnels or Ambulence. Even not able to give even first-aid. Upto that period person breathe his last. It's not India my friend..Humhara Desh Mahaan. Jai Hindustan.

Dear Navin, Manipal - I fully endorse your views..... I too was in Saudi a little over 7 years ago - surprising there is practically no improvement whatsoever. These rowdy Saudi drivers think the road is their fathers property and adopt a care-a-damn-attitude to the other hapless passengers. After all it is said, Saudi is a ''place of the baddus (nomads) and illiterates and that this WILL NEVER change." How true !!

Mr. Harris Madani, Mangalore-Sydney. The car crash occured during the afternoon rush hour. The name, nationality and the age of the deceased could not be ascertained as the vehicle registration papers and identification papers of the man also went up in flames. Even the vehicle registration number plates both from and back melted in the intense heat of the blaze. The Caprice car was involved in collision with a limousine. Such was the impact that burning vehicle had its front turned around facing opp.direction and within moments it was engulfed in flames and all was over in minutes. The limousine had only bumper damage. The charred remains of the man have been shifted to Dammam central hospital. Even the public, Traffic Police and Fire fighters couldnt do anything to save the victim due to the intense blaze and short time. These are one of the daily ghastly accidents happening in Saudi Arabia and most of the Middle east roads.

I don't think this is something new If you are in Bahrain or some other places of GCC, you must know how Saudi's drive, they even don't use indicators while changing lane or stopping, jumping red-light is common.

I can see minimum 2-3 (saudi)cars are involved in accident everyday in Bahrain roads.

Drive carefully...don't talk on phone while driving...please think that, someone is waiting for you ar your home or back-home.

Driving is one of the dangerous activity we do in the middle east and driving defensively is one of the big challenges we face on the roads in Gulf. Saudi Arabia has worst records on road safety. As said in this article most of the accidents happen due to speed and not following traffic rules. All accidents are caused due to human error and avoidable. Readers, please use safety belts for driver as well as all the passenges in the vehicle. Children should be seated on the back seat with safety belt. No use of mobile phones while driving. During these kind of accidents we have to break suddenly and children are the first to get injured or thrown out of the vehicle.

When engine is ON, mobile should be off. It's better to reach a minute late, than never reach. Drive defensively.
