Bengaluru, Nov 20: The people living away from the seashore find it hard to get fresh fish. They even have their own doubts about the freshness of the fish they get at the market. To bridge up the demand for fresh fish, the fisheries department has undertaken an initiative as per which people who order for it get fresh fish delivered at their doorsteps.

The programme, titled 'Matsya Sampada' will be unveiled on World Fisheries Day on November 21. This was announced by fisheries minister, Kota Srinvas Poojary, at a press meet he addressed here on Thursday, November 19. He said that this programme aims at giving encouragement to the fishing industry and a separate app has been created for it. Through the app, the customers will be able to book for fresh fish online.

He said that in the coming days, Karnataka state is likely to occupy the second or third spot in the country as far as fishing is concerned, and that efforts are being made to provide proper market for fish. This online booking is one such initiative, he stated.

The minister said that a recommendation to upgrade the fisheries college at Mangaluru as a university has been sent to the central government, and there is proposal to open five new fisheries colleges at Ankola, Shivamogga, Udupi, Karwar and Mysuru.
