Bantwal: House gutted in fire, causes loss of several lacs

Bantwal, Nov 23: A house belonging to a woman named Vasanthi situated at Munnalaipadavu, Sarapady village caught fire on Monday morning, November 23 causing loss of several lac rupees. Vasanthi and the members residing in the house had gone to their relatives in Sullia on Saturday for a programme. Local people saw thick smoke coming out from the house on Monday morning. All the items in the house were gutted when they reached near the house.

The local people immediately informed the fire brigade and Vasanthi. The fire service personnel succeeded in putting off the fire. Vasanthi, her daughter, son in law and grandchildren were residing in the house. Children’s school books, clothes, house documents, pulses, tiled roof and other items are burnt in the mishap. The wooden materials bought by Vasanthi to construct a new house also were reduced to ashes.

Sarapady gram panchayat executive Pushparaj, PDO Silvia Fernandes and village accountant Chennabasappa visited the spot for inspection and prepared an estimate of the loss. Vasanthi returned from Sullia after she was informed. The cause for the fire is yet to be ascertained. A case in this connection is registered in Bantwal rural police station. Investigations are in progress.
