Kaup, Nov 24: Vasu B Kotian (69), a Billava leader and former Hejamady gram panchayat member, died in a tragic accident.

Kotian was riding a scooter. His two-wheeler hit a lorry at a spot at Uchila on national highway 66 where barricades have been installed and got crushed under the rear wheel of the truck. The accident happened on Monday, November 23 morning.

Vasu had visited Kaup in his scooty and was returning to Hejamady when the accident happened. Both the vehicles were moving in the same direction. It is said that the lorry loaded with gas cylinders, which was moving to Mangaluru when crossing the barricade and moving ahead, hit the scooty. Vasu lost his balance and fell down. He immediately came under the rear wheel of the truck. A case about the accident was registered in Padubidri police station.

Vasu B Kotian, a resident of Adka House in Hejamady had served as the president of Hejamady Satyanarayana Mandir, treasurer of Hejamady Billavara Sangha, vice president of Hejamady Billavara Sangha, vice president of Kodikere Billavara Sangha, vice president of Dhoomavathi Daivasthana, and several other positions. He has left behind his wife and two daughters.

Minister, Kota Srinivas Poojary and MLA Lalaji R Mendon, have mourned his death.
