Bengaluru, Jan 5: Karnataka Land Grabbing Prohibition Special Court here has registered suo motu case relating to the reported encroachment of 242 acres of land owned by Bangalore University in its Jnana Bharathi campus, has asked the city deputy commissioner to file report.

A few months back, a Kannada daily had carried story about the alleged land grabbing as above. Taking note of the report, the court registered a suo motu case on January 1. Judge of the special court, R H Reddy, and revenue member, Palayya, have instructed the city district deputy commissioner to furnish information about the encroachment along with documents. An exhaustive report has been sought on February 9.

It is said that the university land in Shankarapalya, Nayandahalli, Kenchenahalli, Nagadevanahalli, Mallahalli, and Nagarbhavi villages have been encroached. A total of 222 acres of land reportedly has been encroached , This had come to light in a survey conducted in 2016. The land was earlier owned by the forest department and individuals and the government had acquired the land through notification. It is said that an individual has created a plantation in ten acres of land while another in NGEF Layout has grabbef five acres.
