Chamarajanagar: Veerappan’s Wife Acquitted in Two Cases

Chamarajanagar, Sep 8: The district sessions court here dismissed two cases filed against Muttulakshmi, wife of dreaded forest brigand, Veerappan, for want of conclusive evidences. She was facing charges of organizing an attack on Ramapur police station, conspiring to kill police officer, Harikrishna and robbing of arms.

She was charged with robbing a gun after firing shots at Ramapur police station on May 20, 1992. She was also accused of playing a role in the killing district superintendent of police, Hariksishna, sub-inspector, Shakeel and four other policemen on August 14, 1992 near Meenyam in Kollegal taluk and then snatching away of a .303 rifle and wireless set.

Along with her, Seena Ali alias Tailor Seena, and Savariappan, who were facing allegations of being her accomplices in the case of attacking Ramapur police station, have also been acquitted. In the case of police officers’ murder, Seena, Ponnuswamy and Bonda Basava, who reportedly helped her, have also been acquitted.

Muttulakshmi however, has not been released as yet, as she faces two more cases, one of killing 22 people including policemen, media men and forest officials, by planting land mines near Palar, and another case of killing six policemen and robbing fire arms and ammunition on May 24, 1993.
