Mangalore: Children Enjoy to the Hilt at ‘Kajulo Porob-2010’

Mangalore, Nov 2: ‘Kajulo’ the only Konkani children’s monthly magazine which is a sister concern of ‘Raknno’ Konkani weekly published from Mangalore, celebrated its 12th anniversary with children’s fiesta ‘Kajulo Porob-2010’ on Monday November 1 on Loreto Church campus.

The event was organized in collaboration with Loretto Church and saw the participation of more than 1200 children. It began with a performance by the ‘Shri Durga Nasik Band’ of Moodbidri and dances by clowns which entertained the children and put everyone in a festal mood. At 10.30 am Fr Cyprian Pinto, parish priest, Loretto Church, gave an official start to the fiesta by pasting the title ‘Kajulo Porob– 2010’, brought by the children, on the backdrop.

Joe Coelho, vice-president, Loretto parish, Hubert Lobo, secretary, parish pastoral council, Fr Mark Walder of Gantalkatte, Fr Joseph Lobo of Niddodi, Fr Harold Pereira of Paladka, Fr Fredrick Monteiro of Nainadu, CGS Taccode, Sr Zeena Pereira,  Roshan Pinto, Nelson Menezes, Kevin D’Souza, Brain Menezes, Fr Francis Rodrigues and John Furtado were present on the dais. 



















































Throughout the day various competitions for children were held including quiz.  Dance groups from Mangalore and Ranson Crasta from Bejai, gave dance performances.  The day’s winners as well as winners of literary competitions for children held during the past months were honoured during the concluding ceremony.

Fifteen parishes participated in the inter-parish group dance competitions.  Angelore won the first prize while Siddakatte won second place and Modankap won the third prize.

Three new Konkani books from Raknno Publications and a book of Akash Publications were  released on this occasion  during the valedictory function.  Tony Ferros, sub-editor, Raknno-Kajulo, introduced the new publications.

‘Dhakdyachyo Kaniyo’ (decennial short stories - 109th book of Raknno Publications) – a collection of short stories by renowned Konkani short story writers  from 2001 to 2010 was released by Fr Cyprian Pinto. ‘Randpa Kudanth’ - a compilation of more than 300 recipes (108th book of Raknno Publications) by Grace D’Cruz - was released from a cooking pot (kundlem) by Geo Agrar, the chief guest and renowned Konkani writer and children rights activist.

‘Haso Ani Tamaso’ (a collection of Konkani satires - 110th book of Raknno Publications) was released by Fr Roque D’Souza, president of the valedictory function and head of Bantwal deanery.  ‘Monzathinchyo Gadhi’ - a collection of Konkani riddles on animals and birds by Gladys Rego was released by Fr Roque D’Souza.  Of the 110 publications by Raknno, ‘Kanun Darshan’ – a book on legal awareness by Shirtady William Pinto has seen six record editions in a short span.

During the valedictory programme, Geo Agrar urged the children to use their talents and bloom wherever they are planted rather than dream of becoming stars of the skies. Fr Roque D’Souza persuaded the children to live their childhood.  Alongwith Fr Cyprian Pinto, the guest of honour, they distributed prizes.
Derrol D’Souza and Lenita Menezes compeered the programme, editor Fr Francis Rodrigues welcomed and manager John Furtado proposed the vote of thanks. Kajulo staff, well-wishers and the members of ICYM as well as YCS of Loreto together with parish priest Fr Cyprian Pinto organized the fiesta.

‘Kajulo’ magazine has been organizing children’s fiestas from2005.  Earlier feasts have taken place in Mangalore, Kasargod, Udupi,  and Alangar.
