Bantwal, Oct 28: A staff nurse has performed the delivery of a pregnant woman in a moving ambulance. Incidentally Bantwal government hospital doctors had said that the delivery was not possible in that hospital as it was complicated.

Pregnant Naseema Banu from Bolantur Bangarakodi was admitted to Bantwal government hospital on October 24 after experiencing pain. The doctors after examining the woman gave some medicine and admitted her to the hospital. However within an hour of admission, the doctors said that she had meconium strain and suggested to take her to Mangaluru as the delivery was not possible there.

The family members of Naseema Banu called Arogya Kavacha 108 Ambulance vehicle out of anxiety. Immediately the ambulance vehicle in B C Road went to Bantwal and took the woman experiencing labour pain along with another elderly woman relative to Mangaluru.

While the 108 ambulance vehicle was rushing ringing the siren near Padil, the labour pain screams of Naseema Banu also increased. Staff nurse Chethana was provided with necessary items in the ambulance. The nurse took it as a challenge and conducted the delivery. When Naseema heard the cries of the child, her cries were reduced. The elderly woman with her also breathed a sigh of relief.

The mother and child were later admitted to Lady Goshen hospital in Mangaluru and are in good health.

The sincerity and presence of mind of staff nurse Chethana and driver Nagappa has earned public praise. A similar incident had occurred a few months ago when a woman had delivered a baby girl in an ambulance.

Some of the government hospital nurses are very good in managing delivery without complications as did sister chetana. As most of the government hospital doctors think that working in hospital and attending to patients in voluntary as they have government job and get monthly salary and busy with their private business

Well done Chetana. If nurse was not there then it would have been very difficult. Even the elderly woman instead of breathing sigh of relief would have breather her last in panic. Good job Nurse. Keep it up.

How can a hospital in Bantwal discharge a fully pregnant woman whatever may be the reason. If the woman had died inside the van? The rural health centres should act with more responsibility.

why do doctors need to practice defensive medicine? Because in case something goes wrong public will directly blame doctors saying that it's because of negligence of doctors. The modern trend of defensive medicine practiced by doctors as well as the blaming and violent behaviours by public both are wrong. The question is hen came first or the egg!

If Nagappa (Hindu) can take Naseema(Muslim) in Ambulance, and Chethana can do so much.. why cant Hindu and Muslims talk, roam and live to together.

Please do not fight for cow, god, religion etc.. Only human being can help some one who is in need..we can not find a person from same religion in situation like this...

Sometimes babies with meconium staining may have breathing problems during labour & caesarean will be suggested.yes,it's defensive practice or else tomorrow newspapers will carry reports of neonatal death if it occurs & patients will ask why caesarean was not done.this is what I meant when I said no one will take any risk in peripheral hospitals anymore.these things are already on the rise.stop blaming doctors yet again as the suggestion for higher centre for meconium is very justified as if something goes wrong people will definitely ask..why weren't they referred earlier.here everything ended well & I appreciate the nurse who was responsible for the good outcome.but people..stop blaming the doctors who would have given advice in good faith.
