Mangalore, Nov 14: The Mount Carmel Central School in Mary Hill here turned into a global village with students from lower kindergarten to std VIII putting up exhibition as part of the second phase of Projects for International School Award from the British Council on Saturday November 14, the Children’s Day. The two floors of the school were utilized for showcasing exhibits on ten international projects namely flowers, animals, houses, dresses, seasons, medicinal plants, harvest festivals, tourism, dances and crops.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Rev Sr Agatha Mary, superior general of Apostolic Carmel congregation.
Students wearing costumes of different countries and different regions of our country were seen demonstrating the project work they had taken up at the exhibition. What more the students also gave live performances of different items according to the culture that prevails in countries like Australia, Japan, Kenya, America, Gulf countries, Egypt, South Africa, Brazil and such other countries. Festivals and food cooked during the harvest season in England, Africa, Germany and Mexico apart from Indian festivals like Pongal and Onam too were demonstrated live.
The exhibition attracted the visitors that included parents and also students from other schools in the city. Though the visitors would have come under the impression that the students were trained abroad, it would be surprising to note that the great exhibition has been put up through interaction with the students from abroad, collecting information through internet and also field study.
Janny Joosten from Holand expressed her happiness on conducting the exhibition. Students through this project and also through exhibition got an opportunity to exhibit their talent as well as to gain knowledge about the culture of other countries. It’s a wonderful chance for children to develop their overall personality and also enriching for parents.
Keerthi, a parent of one of the students said that the international projects introduced in the school have brought in us and in our children a thirst for knowledge. We along with our children have read books, collected information from internet, prepared models, charts and power point presentations. We have enjoyed this new method of learning, she added.
Principal Sr M Carmel Rita said that the exhibition is the outcome of the efforts of the students. The exhibits were prepared with the needed articles with the help of their teachers and parents.
