Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS/JD)

Udupi, Mar 7: Bunt community has the capacity to make anyone win or lose in the elections said Indrali Jayakara Shetty, honorary president of Udupi Bunts’ association and secretary of federation of World associatons of bunts.

Speaking in the press conference that was held in the city, Jayakar said, “Two importants demands of adding the reservation of bunts to 2A class from 3B and providing a corporation for the bunts are kept in front of Karnataka government many years ago. The government and ministers promised of action but till date no action is taken. We have to convey our frustration to the state BJP government.

“There is a misconception that bunts are only rich and hold lots of land. In addition, there are around 30 lac bunts in the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada. Nearly 90% of bunts are still live in medium class and poorer sections," he said.

“When the demands of all other castes are met, it is not right to neglect our two demands. If political parties think that we are weak in not demanding then we are forced to show our strength in at least 20 constituencies. The BJP government still has time to meet our demands," he added.

“If our demands are not met, we will field bunt candidates in constituencies where our voters are in large numbers,” he warned.

Suresh Shetty, Mohan Shetty, Prof K Surendranath Shetty, Tonse Manohar Shetty, Shivaprasad Shetty and others were present.
