Udupi, Mar 7: A person seeking a loan was cheated of Rs 4.9 lac by fraudsters in Udupi. Girish Acharya, who needed a loan, had uploaded his documents online in response to an advertisement from Bajaj Loan found on Facebook.

On February 27, 2023, a stranger telephoned him posing as a Bajaj Loan representative and assured him that he would provide the loan. He made Girish Acharya remit a total of Rs 4,09,167 in stages between March 1, 2023, and March 3, 2023, to various bank accounts of the accused, stating that those were charges for providing the loan. However, the accused neither paid the loan nor refunded the amount remitted by Girish Acharya.

A case has been registered in this connection at Sen police station under Crime No. 30/2023, Section 66 (C), and 66 (D) IT Act.
