Edward & Cynthia Institute of Public Health supports govt of Mizoram

Champhai (Mizoram), Mar 8: Edward & Cynthia Institute of Public Health – a unit of CHD Group along with the District Administration Champhai conducted an advanced health systems strengthening and operational readiness during humanitarian emergencies workshop for medical doctors and nurses of Champhai, Mizoram.

The workshop was inspired by James Lalrinchhana, deputy commissioner, Champhai, Mizoram.

The medical doctors and nurses were exposed to preparation of disaster management plan, post disaster needs assessment, response to surge capacity and also hospital preparedness during disasters.

Dr Edmond Fernandes, director, Edward & Cynthia Institute of Public Health was the master trainer for the programme and the same was observed by the deputy commissioner, Champhai.

Dr Edmond Fernandes has been a master trainer at many workshops and seminars driven by National Institute of Disaster Management, Ministry of Home Affairs, government of India.

The advanced training workshop was to ensure operational readiness of the health teams in the district during emergencies. Doctors and nurses working at the district hospital, community health centers, primary health centers were engaged in a stimulating workshop where group discussions, case studies and mock situation analysis was tasked. Dr. Edmond Fernandes also shared several strategic suggestions to be incorporated into the disaster plans where disaster – climate change – public health nexus needs to be addressed.

The workshop was curated as the district also celebrated the launch of 200 bed location by Mission ICU – a social initiative powered by CHD Group wherein Champhai district hospital was upgraded with advanced ICU beds and ventilators. The mission ICU 200 bed launch was carried out by Dr Z R Thiamsanga, vice chairman, Health & Family Welfare Board & MLA, Government of Mizoram.

Maanoj Shah, Co-founder, Mission ICU, Darshan Mahajan, core team, Mission ICU, Anwisha Thakur, Kantar India Foundation, Siddharth Dua, Samriddh/ IPE Global were also dignitaries for the event. The associate partners were USAID, Kantar, Crypto Relief, Samriddh and Yenepoya ( Deemed to be University).
