World Kidney Day 2023: Public awareness, education programme held at Kasturba Hospital Manipal

Udupi, Mar 9: As part of World Kidney Day, Kasturba Hospital Manipal organised an awareness and education programme for patients and the public about kidney health.
 
Dr Padmaraj Hegde, Dean-KMC Manipal was the chief guest of the programme and released special kidney health check packages.
 
Dr G Arun Maiya, Dean-Manipal College of Health Professions was the guest of honour of the programme and said, "Diabetes is the common cause of kidney disease. Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity can cause damage to the kidneys and lead to kidney failure. Urinary tract infection can also lead to long-term kidney problems. This type of awareness and education programmes are organised in the hospital from time to time to create awareness about various diseases including kidney. People should take advantage of it. A kidney check-up should be done at least once a year. This is why special kidney health check packages have been introduced today," he said.
 
 
Chief Operating Officer of Teaching Hospitals, MAHE Manipal, Dr Anand Venugopal, and Medical Superintendent Dr Avinash Shetty were present.
 
In his overview, Dr Shankar Prasad N, professor, and head of department of Nephrology said, "World Kidney Day is celebrated worldwide on the second Thursday of March every year. Its objective is to educate and create awareness to the public about kidney health. Every year it is observed with a different theme. This year's theme is "Preparing for the Unexpected and Supporting the Vulnerable ". Most importantly, we at Kasturba hospital, Manipal have all the necessary treatments for kidney patients including kidney transplants under one roof."
 
Dr Ravindra Prabhu A, professor of Nephrology, welcomed the gathering and Dr Darshan Rangaswamy, paediatric Nephrologist proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Srinivas Shenoy was the master of ceremony for the programme.
