Udupi: Inauguration of silver jubilee programmes of UDWJA on Mar 19

Udupi, Mar 13: The president of silver jubilee committee of Udupi District Working Journalists Association (UDWJA) Mohammed Sharif Karkala said that various programmes are chalked out to celebrate the silver jubilee of the association in a meaningful manner. In 2023, 25 different programmes will be held.

In the press conference that was held at press club of the city, Sharif said, “These programmes are organized with the cooperation of press associations of Karkala, Kaup, Kundapur, Byndoor, Brahmavar and Hebri taluks under the aegis of Udupi district working journalists’ association.”

District president Rajesh Shetty Alevoor said, “On January 27, chife minister Basavaraj Bommai had flagged off the silver jubilee programmes by releasing the logo at Karkala. On February 27, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari and Rajya Sabha MP Veerendra Heggade had released the appeal letter of silver jubilee. The inauguration of the silver jubilee programmes will be done on Sunday, March 19 at 2 pm at Ravindra Mantapa of MGM College. Litterateurs, writers, artistes, entrepreneurs and people representatives of Udupi are invited for the ceremony. The invitation card of this will be released shortly.

“Journalists of Udupi have a unique place in the history of journalism of India. We have planned to work for the development of journalists of the district with a fund of Rs 50 lac.

“The 25 programmes for the silver jubilee celebration include release of dairy of the association, huge health camp for journalists and their families, endowment lecture, memory and distribution of prizes, Cartoon workshop, state level cricket tournament, workshop for journalists, village stay by journalists, phone-in programmes, workshop for students of journalism, photography competition, release of souvenir, felicitation of senior journalists, cultural programme of journalists, book release on late journalists, cycle jatha and interaction with state journalist association president.

“There is a plan to extend the building that presently functions from the central office of the association at Brahmagiri Nayarkere of the city. The estimated cost of silver jubilee celebrations will be Rs 2-3 crore. The association seeks kind help of sponsors. We are confident that all will cooperate with us,” he said.

Nazeer Polya, chief secretary of the association, Jayakara Suvarna, chief secretary silver jubilee committee, Umesh Marpalli, treasurer and Aurn Kumar Shiroor, member of national committee were present.
