Udupi, Mar 13: Indian Medical Association (IMA) Udupi-Karavali has taken a resolution to write it to the state and national level medical associations and urge for conducting a detailed study in regard to the recent rising sudden deaths.

Speaking to media Dr P V Bhandary, president IMA Udupi-Karavali said, “As a doctor, I say you must show concern over sudden deaths in the society. In fact, IMA Udupi-Karavali branch has conducted many debates on this topic in closed door circles. Post-Covid cardiac deaths are happening in all age groups. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) promotes scientific research for the doctors. We too must write a letter to the state branch as well as the central branch. We from IMA Udupi-Karavali branch will write to the state and central wings about deaths, especially in the coastal region which I have noticed. Death rate among the aged 50 was 15% earlier which has increased to 24% now with majority of sudden cardiac deaths. We cannot speculate based on two or three cases. Scientific research is the need of the hour. There are speculations, but being a researcher I cannot confirm those speculations. These need to be debated.

“People who are much involved in the exercises and heavy work are much more concerned about cardiac arrest. It has become another challenge of counselling these people. Being a doctor, I call upon the government to do extensive research on this matter. We cannot take reasons on the social media as scientific reasons. But risk factors like diabetes, hypertension, ischemic heart disease as well as lipid profile, if they are abnormal, the patient may die of stroke. These were earlier reasons. But nowadays, people who are normal die suddenly too,” he said.
