Mangaluru, Mar 14: Under the aegis of former MLA Mohiuddin Bawa will lead a protest to be carried out on March 17 against repeated Pacchanady dump yard fire incidents.

Addressing the media here on Tuesday, March 14 he said, “The locals are suffering due to the smoke caused by repeated fires. The school children near Pachanady are living in a suffocating environment. Continuous water sprinkling should be arranged to reduce this incident and the pile of garbage should be moved frequently.

“Since three months, the dumpyard is catching fire and the locals are facing severe health issues and are in dire straits due to the incidents.

“This is a serious issue. The deputy commissioner and mayor should show concern towards the people residing in surroundings of Pacchanady area. The whole area is spread with thick smoke. Why no permanent solution is found yet. Why there is no end to it and why the concerned elected representatives do not pressurize officials to rectify the issue,” he said.

On BJP leader K S Eshwarappa’s statement on Azaan, Bawa said, “Eshwarappa said Azaan disturbs students who are studing for the examinations. Azaan is just for 2 minutes. What about the BJP’s public gathering event which goes for three hours. Will that not disturb the students? Eshwarappa should know that Prime Minister Narendra Modi stopped his speech midway over respect to Azaan.”

He also said, “MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty had alleged that I had stepped on temple prasadam. I challenge him to take a vow at Dharmasthala regarding the allegations made and I am ready to take a vow at the mosque.”
