Beltangady, Nov 5: Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) has appointed 375 volunteers to promote ‘Jnanadeepa’ project in state run primary schools in this academic year in Chikmagalur, Uttar Kannada, Shimoga, Gadag, Dharwad, Haveri, Kodagu, Tumkur, and Belgaum districts.

Volunteers were appointed under the directorship of SKDRDP chairman Dr Veerendra Heggade in order to ease the shortage of teachers in the state run rural schools.

Educated youth who reside near the schools were trained to be voluntary teachers.  They will work in close co-ordination with the school head.  The volunteers will go on field visits to families and create awareness on the significance of education.

The volunteers are striving to enroll school dropouts, thereby minimizing the child labourers.  They will also remain in contact with the parents of students, encourage talented students to partake in various competitions, and co-ordinate with the school governing committee.

It’s significant that the volunteers had enrolled over 9,000 school dropouts in the last academic year.
