Mangaluru, Mar 20: Mangaluru city police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has clarified that the allegations of sexual harassment made by two women against Moodbidri inspector Sandesh are "completely false and malicious."
Addressing the media, the commissioner stated that a comprehensive preliminary investigation has proved that the complaints lodged by Sumathi Naik and Avita Menezes lack any factual basis.

Conspiracy and false complaints
The investigation revealed that the complaints were filed with the malafide intention of framing the officer. The commissioner clarified that no corroborative evidence was found to support the allegations made by the duo.
Regarding the audio and video clips circulating on social media, the commissioner noted that while the women featured in them have identified themselves, they have refused to file any official complaint against the officer. The probe further revealed that these videos were allegedly exploited by Vinod Pinto and others to serve their personal interests.
Action for misconduct
While the specific allegations of sexual harassment were found to be false, the commissioner noted that the department has taken a serious view of the "genuine misconduct" reflected in the audio and video clips. He informed that disciplinary action has already been initiated against the inspector based on his previous lapses and conduct.
Commissioner Reddy emphasized that ensuring the safety of women visiting police stations and treating them with respect is the top priority of the force. He stated that this incident serves as a lesson for the entire department and measures will be taken to ensure such behaviour is not repeated.
At the same time, he issued a stern warning that legal action would be taken against those who mislead investigations by filing false complaints out of personal enmity.
