Udupi, June 30: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls officially commenced across Karnataka on Tuesday, with the house-to-house distribution of enumeration forms beginning in Udupi district under the leadership of deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K.

Launching the district-wide exercise, the deputy commissioner visited Sri Krishna Math, Udupi, where she handed over the first enumeration form to Paryaya Sri Vedavardhana Theertha Swamiji. The symbolic launch was held in the presence of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who also took part in voter awareness activities aimed at encouraging public participation in the electoral roll revision process.

As part of the campaign, the district administration has launched a door-to-door drive to distribute enumeration forms to all eligible voters. The Deputy Commissioner also visited the residence of Udupi District Muslim Okkoota President Abdul Maula and handed over the enumeration form, underscoring the administration's inclusive approach to the revision exercise.

Addressing the media, DC Swaroopa T K urged all eligible voters to actively participate in the Special Intensive Revision by filling in and submitting the enumeration forms to their respective Booth Level Officers.

"The SIR process has begun today. BLOs will visit every household and distribute the enumeration forms. Citizens must fill in the forms and return them to the BLOs, who will upload the details online. Based on the information received, the draft electoral roll will be published on August 15. The public will have one month, until September 4, to submit claims or objections regarding the draft electoral roll. Hearings on claims and objections will be conducted from August 5 to October 3, during which applicants must produce the required supporting documents. The final electoral roll will be published on October 7," she said.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Maula said the Udupi District Muslim Okkoota had launched an awareness campaign across all taluks of the district to ensure every eligible voter participated in the revision process.

"Today, as the SIR process began in Karnataka, the Udupi Deputy Commissioner launched the exercise by distributing forms to selected individuals and creating awareness about the process. Our organisation is spreading awareness throughout the district. Our only objective is to ensure that not a single eligible voter is deprived of the right to vote," he said.

Booth level officer Pramoda said BLOs had been instructed to distribute enumeration forms to every household within the next ten days.

"Each voter will receive two forms. Once the completed forms are collected, we will upload the details through the designated application. If the forms are not filled in correctly or are not submitted, there is a possibility of the voter's name being removed from the electoral roll. At present, voters are only required to provide a passport-size photograph along with the form," she said.

She also explained that BLOs had been provided with red and blue stickers for field verification. Blue stickers would be affixed to houses where residents were present during the visit, while red stickers would be placed on locked houses, indicating that a follow-up visit would be required.

The district administration has appealed to all residents to cooperate with BLOs, complete the enumeration forms accurately, and submit them within the stipulated timeframe to ensure their names are correctly included in the electoral rolls.
