Mangalore: High Court Relief for Soorinje, Police Asked to Explain Action

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Nov 19: In what may be termed as a relief to TV journalist Naveen Soorinje, the high court on Monday November 19 stayed the FIR lodged against him in connection with the Padil home stay incident.

File Photo

Naveen Soorinje, who had recorded the incident live on video, was made the 44th accused in the case. He was charged under several sections of IPC, including conspiracy, unlawful assembly, rioting, rioting with deadly weapons, criminal trespassing, assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty and many others.

The high court in its order has also asked the police to explain the reasons for Soorinje's arrest and termed the FIR against him as 'fake'.

With this, Soorinje is expected to be released from custody on Tuesday November 20.

A warrant was issued against Soorinje on October 3 by the third JMFC court, and he was arrested in a flash operation by Kankanady police led by Ravish Naik on November 7. Since then, various organizations and media have demanded his release.

On July 28 this year, a group of HJV activists had attacked boys and girls celebrating a birthday at Morning Mist Home Stay at Padil, alleging that they were indulging in a rave party. The police have arrested 29 persons, including Soorinje, in connection with the case. The court has denied bail to all the arrested.

It has been proved once again that the "Government Machinery" in Karnataka has been failed miserably and stooped so low!!!. Shame....
"Law Enforcing Agencies" are acting upon the behest of political thugs. It's not their mistake alone. The people of Karnataka who have voted them to power are equally responsible too.

Thank God we have the "High Court's" and the "Supreme Court" to save the honest citizens from our corrupt politician's.

Hope and pray that their monies and muscle powers cannot buy them.

    Was that, their mission mis-fired?
In reality the media should be committed to their job and help India grow.
    Good luck - Soorinji!

Injustice done to one is injustice done to all. As long as Indians do not realize this, common man will continue to suffer at the hands of men in power and men with money power.
Naveen’s arrest should awaken our middle class who is in a deep slumber. One day Police, Politician and rich crooks will attack middle class in one way or other. Therefore a total revolution is required, middle class should spend more time with Social Activists than wasting their time before the T.V, Temples, Churches and Masjids. There should be strict action against Seemanth Kumar the then Commissioner of Police, who had vowed to teach a lesson to Naveen because he exposed his liaison and allegiance to Communal forces.

Hats off High Court and Mr. Soorinje, Police booked FIR against him Quote “was made the 44th accused in the case. He was charged under several sections of IPC, including conspiracy, unlawful assembly, rioting, rioting with deadly weapons, criminal trespassing, assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty and many others.” Shame on department and shame on political leader there is no law at all in Mangalore. Most of the departments are acting on behalf of ministers. Guilty persons are roaming in and around but innocents are in jail, Is it special democracy/freedom in Mangalore.

    Mangalore police again prooved.

They are good in arresting attacked than attackers.

Same thing they did at the time of Church's attatcked in Mangalore.
More than 200 cases booked against protesters.
Not a single case booked against those who attacked the Churches.
Even they know who attacked the Churches one by one.

They can escape from this world but in front of creator they need to answer.

Police would not have arrested him without a reason. They have nothing to do by catching a wrong person. If he is found not guilty, definitely he will be let off. Already 43 people have been arrested in connection with the attack. Out of these 43, someone would have brought Naveen's name. Now police need to explain the reasons for Naveen's arrest to High Court.

Congratulations to Mr Navin Soorinje for your initial success against Police atrocities hand in glove with Govt of Day in District as well as in the state.IT IS ABSOLUTELY APPRECIATED COURT'S SHOW CAUSE NOTICE TO DK POLICE ON THE ISSUE OF ILLEGAL CONFINEMENT OF MEDIA MAN MR NAVIN SOORINJE....THE WAY POLICE TOOK HIM CUSTODY IS COMPLETELY PRE PLANNED IN CONNIVANCE WITH HIS COMRADE!!!!!!!!Believe me he was treated like TERRORIST ambushing the car in which he was travelling.Who gave the information about his movement to the police?KESARI supported media man?Police action in this regard is ridiculous, cunning, illegal and revengeful and absolute misuse power which certainly warrants punishment .The police who took him in to custody in a operation, need to explain public as well as to the court.MR SOORINJE , WELL DONE,TRUST IN COURT AND FIGHT FOR VOICE OF VOICELESS.

Justice has finally prevailed.Shame on political leaders who conspired with the police to arrest an innocent journalist of electronic media in a bid to cover up their own failure of averting the attack on the youngsters partying. I wish that the media expresses solidarity with him so that the 'fourth estate' of democracy can function in a free and fair way.

The person behind this attack is free in planning further attacks. The culprits in the custody should be interrogated and so that the master mind behind these attacks is arrested and never released. In what way the damage caused to Mr Soorinje will be compensated? This arrest is just to demoralize the people so that they dont involve in justice. Mr Soorinje we are proud of you. You will be the motivation and model for the youth.
