Mangalore, May 29: Unidentified thieves broke into a house at midnight and have decamped with gold worth several lacs on Tuesday May 27. The incident is reported under Konaje police limits.

According to the reports, the theft was reported from the house belonging to Anand Deepak D’Souza, son of Victor D’Souza of Kairangala, Konaje. The incident took place when the family members were in a deep asleep.

It is said that on Monday night, around 11 pm, the family went to sleep. When Anand got up at 3 am to go to the bathroom, he noticed the rear door open. When he checked the rooms, the lockers were opened and the jewellery was stolen.

According to the complaint registered in the police station, 40 sovereigns gold worth 7.50 lac including a 76 gram mangalasuthra was stolen from the house. The police are investigating the incident.

Increasing robbery cases
Under this jurisdiction, several cases of theft have been reported since the past three years. This increase has worried the residents.

Sources say that the reports state the increasing unemployment among the youth in the region has led to such cases. Although, few residents have registered a complaint to check some key persons, the issue is not tackled by the police.

The earlier reports of theft at Mudipu, Kallata, Manjanadi, Kamblapadavu are examples. However, the police have failed to catch hold of the culprits even after a series of theft incidents.

There is also a suspicion on the migrants who have come for construction and other jobs; they  too could be the reason behind the increasing thefts. The police have asked the residents to keep vigil and to be careful.
