Everton rejects Chelsea offer to buy Stones

London, July 30 (IANS): English football club Everton has rejected a new offer from Chelsea for 25 million sterling pounds for defender John Stones.

The reigning Premier League champions improved their initial price to take Stones by five million pounds, but Spanish coach Roberto Martinez has again declined, reports Efe.

Nearly two weeks ago, Martinez criticised Chelsea's public announcement of interest in the young defender, who joined Everton in January 2013 from Barnsley. In early July, the 21-year-old Stones said he was "very happy at Everton".

"My aim right now is to try to nail down a regular spot in this Everton team and hopefully that will take care of playing for England," he said.
