Tamil Nadu: Man Marries Dog as Atonement

AP

New Delhi, Nov 14 (mb): A man in Tamil Nadu married a female dog in a traditional ceremony as an attempt to atone for stoning two dogs to death fifteen years ago - an act he believes cursed him.

P Selvakumar married the sari-draped former stray named Selvi, chosen by family members, and then bathed and clothed for the ceremony on Sunday at a temple in the state.

Selvakumar, 33, said he had been suffering since he stoned two dogs to death and hung their bodies from a tree 15 years ago.

"After that my legs and hands got paralysed and I lost hearing in one ear," he said.

An astrologer had told Selvakumar the wedding was the only way he could cure the maladies.

This news is really shocking. Its really sad to see people practicing such superstition in this modern world. It hurts more when educated and highly qualified people practice it. There is no strong scientific evidence in many cases. Some people prefer to meet astrologer rather than a doctor when they are ill. I request Daijiworld to watch this person in future whether his condition has improved by marrying a dog. I am sure that his problem will never get solved by this inhuman act. This is because it is against nature. Please update us with more information to make this society free from superstitious belief.
