Chikmagalur, Sep 8: The Nativity of our Mother Mary (popularly known as Monthi Fest) was celebrated with pomp and gaiety in Chikmagalur diocese.

Holy Eucharist was offered in all the catholic churches honouring Mother Mary with flowers and fruits.  Before the Mass all the devotees took procession and the children offered flowers as they sang the devotional hymns to our lady. Corn was blessed and made available to all the people.

After the mass, sugar cane was distributed to all the gathered.  The specialty of this year was that the “Catholic Konkan Rakhan Sanchalan” (Chikmagalur & Hassan) took keen interest in supplying sugar cane to 16 churches of Chikmagalur diocese.  The uniqueness of the Monthi Fest celebration was seen and felt at Holy Family Church, Sundekere, having mass in Konkani language offered by a Kannada priest Fr Paschal Mariappa.

Catholic Konkan Rakhan Sanchalan distributed sugar can to Cathedral, Vijayapura, Jyothinagar, Kuduvallli, Bankal, Basrikatte, Coove, Jayapura, Kadabagere, Koppa, N R pura, Magundi, Mallandur, Mudigere, Fathimapura and Sundekere churches.
