Bangalore: Sports Journalist Commits Suicide

Bangalore, Sep 9: A senior sports journalist from Bangalore working for The Hindu, committed suicide on the night of Saturday September 6, at his residence here.

Doreswami Ravishankar(58) reportedly looked normal on the fateful day and spoke to one of his relatives a few hours before he hanged himself. One of his daughters had married in London recently and a ceremony was organized in the city three days back. Ravishankar was on leave for the purpose and was to report for duties on Sunday September 7, for work.

He is survived by wife and four children. Ravishankar joined The Hindu in 1994, after working in Avery International, Valley International School and Indian Express as sub-editor.

Karnataka Olympic Association office bearers, The Sports Journalists Federation of India and Sports Writers Association of Bangalore have condoled his death. As of now, reasons that drove him to seek recourse to this extreme step, are unknown.
