Udupi: High Way Hiccups Strand Traffic For Two Hours

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Sep 9: The stretch of the national highway 17 between Sasthan and Udupi is in a deplorable condition since the onset of monsoon this year, and the light rain that was received in the district during the last few days, have turned the pot holes into craters and craters into virtual pools.

In the afternoon on Sunday September 7, traffic on the highway on this stretch came to a standstill for nearly two hours. A bus, which was trying to avoid a huge pot hole neat Uppoor bus stand, rubbed a car, giving rise to verbal altercations between the drivers of the two vehicles. Although the issue was settled after some hard bargaining, the bus engine failed, complicating the issue further. In the meanwhile, restive vehicle drivers choked the highway in an attempt to making their way through the blocked road.

The policemen had to work hard to pave way for one-way traffic, after a queue of over six kilometres was formed either way. Two wheeler riders had to bath in red muck.

Dear Daijiworld, This would be my sincere request to you to take this issue seriously. As you people are the middlemen between people and the govt, you can bring some changes to this situations. IF any one of your reporters travel to these destination would really get the pain of the situation.

Old people who are travelling on these roads are facing chest pain and muscle catches etc etc which are putting their life in danger. And being the only road (NH 17) which goes to both udupi and kundapur, there is no alternative to travel in these manholes.

I visited my native place during August and took atleast 90 minutes to reach my place from udupi where as it was just 20 minutes before. I still wonder why people, authorities concerned are still quite on these issues. Rather people are busy in constructing the apartments and expecting people to invest on that. How can we reach these places if the roads are not good??

We should congragulate the drivers(bus) who travel daily atleast for 2-3 trips from Udupi to Kundapur. They are risking their life to take the passengers safely to the destinations.

Please take my sincere request to the govt through your media to get these roads repaired which will help in saving many lives and giving good impression of our country. Also I suggest the owners of the the local shuttle buses, lorries, taxi's should stop going on these road till the roads are properly repaired. I always believe that the pen is the strongest fighter than any other wepons. Thank you very much.
