Bangalore: Chief Minister Opposed to Milk Price Hike

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Sep 9: Speaking to reporters after visiting the state governor on Sunday September 7, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said, that the government was totally opposed the proposal mooted by the Karnataka Milk Federation(KMF) for hiking the price of milk.

Increasing of the price of milk will result in a burden on the consumers. Hence, the Federation should not try to increase the price of milk, he cautioned.

For helping the milk producers, the government has been providing subsidy of two rupees a litre to them. Hence, there is neither an occasion to affect price hike nor is the move justifiable, he said. Expressing surprise over the report of losses being suffered KMF all of a sudden, the chief minister warned, that the government will not hesitate to order an audit of its accounts.

The Federation should manage its finances in a better way, by curtailing excessive staff and controlling unwarranted expenditure, he advised. The chief minister' statement, coming immediately after the announcement of the Federation chairman H D Revanna, that a final decision about the price rise will be taken at the meeting of the Board of the Federation to be held on September 12, has given rise to a stand-off between the two.

Enquired about the purpose of his visit to Rajbhavan, residence of the state governor, the chief minister said, that it was a courtesy visit. "I explained about the development projects taken up by the government, and the governor, based on his rich experience, extended some suggestions," Yeddyurappa revealed.
