Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Sep 9: MLA K Raghupati Bhat said that the chief minister will declare the district as fully literate, by December this year or early next year. He was speaking after inaugurating the international literacy programme at the Rajangana of Srikrishna Math here on Monday September 8.

The motivators and deputy motivators should aim at transforming the district into a fully literate district in actual terms, instead of aiming at creating departmental records to get this tag. Once the district is declared as fully literate, no one from the district will be allowed to resort to thumb impressions instead of putting signatures, he said. He also assured the motivators that he would urge the chief minister to increase the honorarium being paid to the motivators, by increasing the state government's contribution.

Taluk panchayat president Geeta G Prabhu, vice-president Bhagyalakshmi Uppoor, municipal president Dinkar Shetty Herga, Udupi block education officer D Manjunathaiah,    zilla panchayat deputy secretary D Pranesh etc., were present.
