Mangalore, Sep 9: C M Abdulla Musliyar from Chembarike in Kasargod, has been appointed as the new Khazi of the city, in place of Alhaj Kota Abdul Khader Musliyar, who breathed his last recently.

This decision was taken at the meeting of Muslim Ulemas and Umaras held recently at Zeenat Buksh here. The meeting had earlier decided to hand over the post of the Khazi to Mittabail Abdul Jabbar Musliyar, who is functioning as the assistant Khazi. But he refused to accept the appointment and as such, the meeting chose C M Abdulla Musliyar to the post.

The new Khazi is 70-year-old and can converse in several languages including Kannada, Malayalam, English and Urdu. Mittabail Ustad presided over the meeting. Presidents of several mosques and religious leaders took part in the meeting.
