M'lore: Muslim Merchants' Association Decries Nagaraj Shetty's Appointment

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Sep 10: The Muslim Merchants Association has expressed strong opposition to the appointment of ex-minister B Nagaraj Shetty to the chairmanship of the newly-formed Karnataka Coastal Development Authority. It has dubbed this appointment, as an injustice meted out to secular citizens of the twin districts.

It has alleged that when Shetty was the district-in-charge minister, he had engineered communal violence in the district. Before these bitter memories could be erased, Nagaraj Shetty has been made the chairman of the Coastal Development Authority. This has created a sense of insecurity and apprehension among the people of the entire coast, Association leaders Ali Hassan and Yasin Kudroly explained, in a press release.

Lets accept the fact that all parties are equally bad. When Congress/JDS was in power they did whatever they wanted. Now lets BJP do. When people didnt have guts oppose, why they should do that now. Its BJP wish, let us accept. Its a true fact that whenever somebody favours then he is good, if not he is bad. If someone dont want to accept let them go to prayer hall and do Bhajan.

This is a deliberate attempt by CM Yeddi to unnecessarily hurt the feelings of the minorities. They say that in democracy the people decide. In the case of Mr Nagraj Shetty, the people decided that he was unfit to be a leader and booted him out, yet the CM has brought him back and given him an important position in a place where minorities form a sizeable chunk of the population, and in the same place from where he was booted out by the electorate.

If Yeddi was keen on rehabilitating Mr Shetty he should have kept him in Bangalore as his secretary. The people of Mangalore in particular and DK in general should keep a close watch on his activities now, as he may be again cooking up some formula to create tensions between communities, so that he can again thrive over peoples sufferings and misery.
