M'lore: District Congress to Protest Self-Assessment Tax, Hike in Water Tariff

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (RD/CN)

Mangalore, Sep 11: The Dakshina Kannada district Congress committee will be protesting in front of the city corporation headquarters from 1.30 pm on Tuesday September 16, against the anti-people policies of the BJP-led municipal body, said Suresh Ballal, president, north block Congress, and Abdul Salim, president, south block Congress,  in a joint statement. They were addressing media persons on Thursday September 11.

The committee alleged that in the past, the Congress-led city corporation had withheld self-assessment tax in the city, despite pressure from the state government. However, the current municipal administration has meted out injustice to citizens by doubling the existing water tariff and introducing self-assessment tax, contrary to the BJP poll manifesto, said Ballal and Salim.

Vishwas, Steven D'Souza Mogarnad, M S Mohammed, Moideen Bava, and former mayor Shashidar Hegde, were present at the press conference.
