Mangalore, Sep 11: Leaders of various Christian organizations including Catholic diocesan director Fr Vincent Monteiro, veteran Konkani litterateur Victor Rodrigues Angelore, president of Konkan Prachar Sanchalan Roy Castelino, Catholic Sabha core committee president Lancy D'Cunha, regional secretary Deepak D'Souza, and JDS district secretary Susheel Noronha, visited the family of sailor Kiran D'Souza on Thursday September 11. Kiran is a captive aboard a merchant navy ship hijacked by pirates near a remote island off the Somalia coast.
The delegation of leaders visited the anxious family at Kayyar, in Kasargod, and assured them that they were in touch with seafarers' associations in Mumbai and the city, shipping officers, union minister of external affairs Pranab Mukherjee, and union minister for labour and employment Oscar Fernandes, who are seeking the release of all 24 crew. They also sought prayers from the faithful for the safe return of all three Indians among the captive crew members.
