Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Sep 12: In a bizarre development that gives proof to the collapsing moral standards of the country, two members of Bada gram panchayat of Shiggaon taluk in Haveri district, who were abducted with the intention of usurping power in that gram panchayat, were brought into the district by unscrupulous elements.

Shekhappa Kundoor, a BJP-supported member of the said gram panchayat, succeeded in giving a slip to his abductors from near Nerlakatte near here and sought police protection by presenting himself in the town police station.

Kundoor said, that Bada gram panchayat has 13 members, out of which, seven are supported by the BJP. A few persons, suspected to be Congress supporters, skillfully took himself and another BJP member Basavaraj Javeri, away from their village in a vehicle on the morning of Wednesday, September 10, he explained.

The two came to know about the ulterior designs of the other people in the vehicle late, but could not succeed in escaping from their clutches. Shekhappa succeeded in running away when the Qualis vehicle in which he was being taken, was parked near Nerlakatte. It appears that Javeri did not succeed in his attempts to escape.

The police contacted their counterparts in Haveri district and came to know that complaints of abduction had been lodged there. As a result, the Shiggaon tahsildar has postponed the election. Puttur town police said that Shekhappa will be sent home under police protection.
