Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Sep 15: The jewellery mart of Malbar Gold located in Kasargod narrowly escaped from being defrauded to the tune of about Rs 30 lac.

A person, who introduced himself as Rajesh from Kasargod, informed that he wanted to buy gold ornaments valued at around Rs 50 lac by using credit card. Managing director of the firm Abdulla Kunhi permitted the transaction. After selecting ornaments worth Rs 28 lac besides two watches costing Rs 63,000, the youth presented an ICICI credit card towards payment.

Growing suspicious of the card, the in-charge contacted ICICI bank and was informed that the card was fake. Even before the shop staff stopped Rajesh and conveyed information to the police, the car in which four people including a woman had come, sped away.

After intensive search, the policemen could trace the car. However, the driver who is said to be a Mangalorean, could not provide any information about the fraudsters, the police said.
