Mangalore: Judicial Probe into Church Attacks Ruled out

The Hindu

Bangalore, Sep 17: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has ruled out a judicial probe, sought by the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular), into the recent attacks allegedly by Sangh Parivar organisations on Christian places of worship and institutions. He contended that the State police were competent to conduct the investigations. The two Opposition parties had sought a judicial probe by a sitting High Court judge into the incidents of violence against minorities reported since the formation of the BJP government in the State.

Saying that the attacks took place in areas where conversion activities were going on, the Chief Minister said that an inquiry would be conducted into the source of funds of one of the organisations, New Life, that he alleged was involved in forcible conversions.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, after reviewing the law and order situation in coastal districts, he rejected the demands by the Opposition for the resignation of Home Minister V.S. Acharya.

What more proof do you need that the government is shielding the BD? They don't want a judicial probe... just as the Orissa Government denied a CBI probe!! This Government is utterly shameless and forgets basic principles of Justice that perpetrators of violence like the police in Mangalore have no right to investigate...This Government is not sincere.

This is ridiculous. How can the Honorable Chief minister pass a a statement like this. How can he say the attacks were going on where conversion activities were going on. Where is the proof. I don't support conversions but it does mean that the BD's can take the law in their hands. Clear sign of the BJP's support to the BD's. No use of condemning the attacks Honorable Chief Minister cause you are also supporting it. Please let us know before itself what are your next steps and atleast now we know that we have to prepare only for the worst.
