Bajrang Dal given Free Rein: Congress

BANGALORE, Sep 17: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government has allowed organisations such as the Sangh Parivar and the Bajrang Dal to organise attacks against churches at several places in the State simultaneously.

Congress MLC and spokesperson V.R. Sudarshan told presspersons here on Tuesday that the Government had failed in carrying out its primary responsibility of protecting the poor and the minorities.

Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa and Minister for Home V. S. Acharya were solely responsible for the collapse of the law and order situation in the State, he said.

Stating that the BJP has never been a responsible party and has not made any significant contribution to the growth of the democracy, Mr. Sudarshan said the attack on churches reflected lack of coordination among the various departments in containing terrorism.

Terming Dr. Acharya as a “dummy Home Minister,” Mr. Sudarshan said that people were wondering whether the Government had been acting with any responsibility in maintaining communal harmony and social amity.

‘File charge sheets’

The former Minister K.H. Srinivasa said that the Government should adopt stringent measures to put an end to the ongoing violence. It should file charge sheets against those arrested irrespective of their political clout and stature, and produce them before the court, he added.

The former MLC and writer L. Hanumanthaiah alleged that the State intelligence had failed to alert those concerned
