Mumbai, Oct 6: A Kannada research workshop was held on the Mumbai University Vidhyanagari Kalina campus located at Santa Cruz (East) on Friday October 3. It was organized under the aegis of the Kannada department of Mumbai University, Maharashtra unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Kannada and Culture department, Sadanand Suvarna Cultural Foundation, and Abhijit Publications.

Two Kannada books were also released on the occasion. Eminent critic G M Hegde presided over the programme.  Veteran litterateur and workshop director Prof Krishnamurty Hanoor, Mysore, was also present.

 
Chandrashekar Palettady, editor, ‘Kannada Malla’, a daily published from the metro, released Dr G N Upadhya’s book ‘Balvege Bekadavaru’, and Suman Chiplunkar’s  ‘Vagmiya Vihar’, on the occasion.
 
Journalists Srinivas Jokatte and Eshwar Alevoor, introduced the authors and their books. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Krishnamurty, said that Kannadigas settled in the metro leading a harmonious life in the commercial capital of India, was something to rejoice.  However, Kannada ‘Rajyotsavas’ in Bangalore have been commercialized, he said. He added that Kannada had survived in Karnataka only because it was the mother tongue of   rural Kannadigas.

Earlier, Dr Leela, K K Pattar Sangli, Eshwar Alevoor, Bharat Kumar Polipu, Mamata Rao, Medha Kulkarni, V S Shanbagh, Rajasree Inamdar, Vijay Kumar Swamy G S (Akka Lakote) S S Kelpady, and Prabhu Angady, attended the Kannada research workshop held on Friday morning. Mariyappa Natekar compered the programme.
 
Veena Shastry welcomed the gathering with a song.  Dr G N Upadhya introduced his Abhijit Publications.  Poornima Shetty compered the programme while C S Niranjan proposed vote of thanks.
