Mangalore: New Railway Track at NMPT for Rapid Cargo Movement

Mangalore, Nov 4:
New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) chairman P Tamilvannan recently inaugurated the new railway track laid at NMPT by the railways department. This track aims at enhancing the infrastructure at one of the major ports of the country.
 
Railways officers, NMPT trustees, and senior officers, were present on the occasion.
 
NMPT has witnessed a steep rise in cargo traffic after the introduction of passenger and goods trains along the Mangalore-Bangalore broad gauge railway route. NMPT recorded cargo traffic of over 33.30 lac tonne on Friday October 31, by goods trains.

This figure was at 26.35 lac tonne at the same time last year.  The new track has been laid at a cost of Rs 20 crore, informed a press release.
