Karkala, Nov 4: The policemen belonging to the Udupi district Lokayukta raided the office of the Karkala surveyor on Monday November 3 and arrested surveyor Dasa Purusha on charges of accepting bribe.

The raid was conducted on a complaint filed by councillor of Karkala municipality Shubhada Rao. Reportedly Shubada Rao had on August 1 this year, submitted an application in the office of the surveyor, requesting for the plotting of three sub-divisions, on behalf of his father and uncle.

In spite of several visits to the surveyor's office, the official did not attend to the plotting work and allegedly demanded a sum of Rs 1,000 after a couple of months, for attending to the work. After Rao paid the sum as demanded, purposefully he did a partial job, and demanded a further sum of Rs 1,000 for completing the work.

Angered Shubhada Rao agreed, and applied for the plotting work. In the meantime, he alerted the Lokayukta police about the official's conduct and as advised by them, created an audio recording of his conversation with Purusha.

As Shubhada Rao handed over money to the official on Monday, Lokayukta police raided the survey office.
