Bangalore: Youth Congress Demands Hanging of Afzal Guru

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Feb 8:  The state youth Congress has demanded for the execution of the death sentence passed against Afzal Guru, mastermind behind the attack on parliament, immediately.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R V Despande had said at the time of taking over charge as the new president of the state unit, that he would bring pressure on the union government to ensure that Guru is hanged at the earliest. Karnataka Pradesh youth Congress Committee president Krishna Bhaire Gowda has reiterated this demand.

"The entire country had shuddered when the terrorists attacked the parliament. Every one is of the opinion that Afzal Guru should be hanged. We do not oppose this demand," he clarified.

The statement of Gowda assumes significance in the light of the strong opposition the Congress party has been expressing, to the anti-terrorism campaign initiatives of the state government.  Krishna Bhaire Gowda recollected, that Rahul Gandhi himself had confessed some time back, that the murderers of Rajiv Gandhi have so far not been hanged and that the family has not got justice because of this. Gowda reiterated, that the party is not at all opposed to the execution of the death sentence passed against Afzal Guru.
